U njemu William Powell i Myrna Loy ponavljaju glavne uloge, a radnja je smještena u Nickov rodni gradić u provinciji gdje se Charlesovi upetljaju u rješavanje ubistva poznatog slikara te razotkriju međunarodne spletke. The Thin Man Goes Home, prvi koga nije režirao W. S. Van Dyke (preminuo dvije godine ranije) je predstavljao prvo značajnije odstupanje u odnosu na prva četiri filma serije. U njemu je scenario prvi put ignorirao, odnosno proturječio književnom predlošku Dashiela Hammeta, pa je tako Nick Charles prikazan kao 'obični' WASP iz provincije, umjesto potomak grčkog imigranta.
