Synopsis
The story of Corporal Chris Ryans courage and heroism behind enemy lines during the Gulf War.
The existence of the anti-Iraq coalition was threatened when Saddam targetted Israel. In order to keep Israel out of the war, and the coalition together the Scuds had to be stopped. SAS patrol Bravo Two Zero, under the command of Sgt. Andy McNab was tasked to destroy these weapons. Three of the SAS troopers were killed and four captured: Only one escaped - Cpl. Chris Ryan. This is his version of what happenned.
As Operation Desert Storm begins in earnest, British SAS officers are sent deep into Iraq to infiltrate Saddam Husseins stronghold in Baghdad and locate the Scud missile launchers that are pounding Israel with rockets. However, little do these young soldiers realise what dangers lie ahead...
The interesting thing about the film of The One that Got away is the significant difference form the book or from Andy McNabbs acount in Bravo Two Zero
The film makers almost seem to have hijacked Chris Ryans story to emphasise discord among the troop and a cowboy attitude of some of the troopers and portrays a partially sympathetic view of the Iraqis.
The filmakers show the savagery of war and the innocents killed and in part the futility of the whole efforts of some of these tremendously brave and committed men. I dont think it was Chris Ryans original intent to blame everyone in the world except himself for this ordeal - which is how it comes accross in the film.
