'Ju Dou' je drugi film najznačajnijeg suvremenog kineskog redatelja Zhanga Yimoua ('Šangajska trijada', 'Heroj', 'Kuća letećih bodeža'), realiziran u suradnji s koredateljm Yangom Fegliangom. Nadahnuta Yimouova drama prvi je kineski film nominiran za Oscara u kategoriji najboljih filmova s izvanengleskog govornog područja, no film u domovini dvije godine nije mogao dobiti dozvolu za prikazivanje. U glavnoj je ulozi tadašnja redateljeva muza Gong Li.
