Deadwood, teritorija Dakota, uglavnom je prebivalište muškaraca, gde je izviđačica Calamity Jane tvrdoglava, hvalisava i spretna s pištoljem kao i svaki drugi; prilično moćna ličnost. Ali, vojni poručnik koji ona favorizuje zapravo ne ceni njene finije kvalitete. Jedno od njenih hvalisanja dovodi je u Čikago da regrutuje zabavljačicu za lokalni bar. Kada je stigla, dotična dama se čini (u početku) ženstvenijim rivalom za usluge Janeinih muških prijatelja... uključujući njenog prijateljskog neprijatelja Divljeg Billa Hickocka.
