Oskarovski kandidat Don Hertzfeldt (1976) svoje popularne animirane filmove
prikazivao je na više od tisuću filmskih festivala i manifestacija širom svijeta.
Diplomirao je film na Sveučilištu u Santa Barbari 1998, gdje je producirao svoja
prva četiri animirana filma: Ah L'Amour (1995), Genre (1996), Lily and Jim (1997)
i Billy's Balloon (1998). Ovaj posljednji nominiran je 1998. za Zlatnu palmu
u Cannesu. Njegov sljedeći film, Rejected (2000), nominiran je za Oscar 2001.
Filmovi The Meaning of Life (2005), Everything will be OK (2006) i I am so proud
of you (2008) privukli su mnogobrojnu publiku. Od 1995. nadalje njegovi su
animirani filmovi ukupno primili više od 150 međunarodnih nagrada.
