The Way to the Stars (1945)

Velika Britanija tijekom 2. svjetskog rata. Mladi pilot RAF-a Peter Penrose (J. Mills) dolazi u vojnu bazu u Midlandsu, iz koje avioni polijeću za Francusku, gdje se odmah sprijatelji s iskusnim Davidom Archdaleom (M. Redgrave), koji mu postane mentor. David je oženjen privlačnom Toddy (R. John), voditeljicom 'Zlatnog lava', pilotima omiljene gostionice. U 'Zlatnom lavu' Peter upozna Iris Winterton (R. Asherson), lijepu i zanimljivu djevojku koja je, zajedno s ujnom, pobjegla iz Londona u provinciju. Ne prođe dugo i David pogine u jednoj operaciji i Toddy ostaje sama s malim djetetom. Potresen prijateljevom smrću, Peter zaključi kako rat nije vrijeme za ozbiljne veze i brakove, te prekine svoju vezu s Iris...

Snimana u Britaniji, koncem 2. svjetskog rata, ratna drama Put do zvijezda, o svakodnevnici pilota, imponira realističnim ugođajem i nimalo sentimentalnim prikazom ratne zbilje. Film je režirao Anthony Asquith (Browningova verzija, Važno je zvati se Ernest), jedan od najuglednijih britanskih redatelja 30-ih, 40-ih i 50-ih godina prošloga stoljeća, a impresivnu glumačku ekipu predvodi legendarni John Mills (1908-2005), dobitnik Oscara za epizodnu ulogu u glasovitoj melodrami Davida Leana Ryanova kći.
