Опис:

Radnja filma smeštena je u rane dane Drugog svetskog rata, kada je Nemačka u sukobu sa Velikom Britanijom. Kapetan Karl Erlih, komandant nemačkog teretnog broda "Ergenstrasse", usidrenog u Sidneju, odlučuje da se vrati u Nemačku uprkos ratu.
Erlich je protivnik nacizma, ali i ponosni Nemac, što ga dovodi u sukob sa obe strane. Britanska mornarica ga goni, a on mora da se snalazi kako bi izbegao hvatanje, uz probleme sa nedostatkom goriva i pobunom posade.
