Priča o vernosti, krivnji, nadi i složenom ljubavnom trokutu. Sara Majls je žena britanskog dužnosnika s kojim živi u Londonu za vreme Drugog svetskog rata. Kada je muž upozna sa američkim piscem Maurisom Bendrikuom, odmah oseti privlačnost prema njemu i započne ljubavnu aferu.
