Опис:
Francuska u doba revolucije. Andre Moreau (Stewart Granger) plemić je i pustolov čija su jedina preokupacija žene ali i izbjegavanje obveza u koje bi ga iste mogle uvaliti. Nakon što otkriva identitet svog pravog oca, Andre ga odlučuje potražiti. Društvo mu pravi prijatelj i revolucionar "Marcus Brutus" (Richard Anderson) koji se bavi tiskanjem letaka uperenih protiv plemstva. Na putu, Andre se zaljubljuje u privlačnu Aline de Gavrillac (Janet Leigh) ali biva grdno razočaran nakon što se ispostavi da mu je ona, najvjerojatnije, sestra. Po dolasku na cilj čeka ga još jedno iznenađenje-otac kojeg je pronašao upravo je umro.
Prijatelji ubrzo kreću natrag, ali u gostionici ih zaustavlja vojna patrola. Nervozni Marcus naivno otkriva svoj pravi identitet i gine proboden mačem zapovjednika patrole Marquisea de Maynesa (Mel Ferer). Prije no što uspije pobjeći, Andre se Marquisu, najboljem mačevaocu Francuske, obećaje osvetiti.
