„Salam Bombaj“ bio je prvi igrani film autorke dokumentarnog filma Mire Nair; iako priča teče po scenariju, glumci su autentični ljudi sa ulice.

Film je odneo nagrade Zlatna kamera i Nagradu publike na Kanskom filmskom festivalu.
