Privatnog detektiva, nekadašnjeg policajca Choucasa (A. Delon) angažira jedna stara dama da nađe njezinu slijepu kćer. Pomažu mu njegov kompanjon, umirovljeni inspektor Haymann (M. Auclair) i tajnica Charlotte (A. Parillaud). No, zapravo se radi o klopci koju postavljaju i policajci i trgovci drogom da bi se riješili Choucasa...
Alain Delon, već potvrđena glumačka zvijezda, a i uspješan producent, u tom se filmu prvi put okušao kao redatelj. Čvrsto drži u rukama sve konce komplicirane priče s nizom spektakularnih scena pokazujući da je od velikih redatelja Melvillea i Clémenta, s kojima je snimio neke od svojih najboljih filmova, dobro naučio kako se stvara atraktivan spoj američkog i tipičnog francuskog krimića, u kojem će specifičan akcijski junak, kakvog je on sam najčešće tumačio, ponajviše doći do izražaja.
