Porte aperte (1990)

Tommaso Scalia is a man who commits three murders: he killed his superior who sacked him, he kills the man who replaced him, and he kills his own wife. He wants a quick trial and an early execution, but an earnest, principled assistant judge looks for a way to save the murderer from being shot, because he does not belive in capital punishment. Although he manages to save the man initially, he will pay a high price for it.

Radnja filma smještena je u Palermo 1937.
Nakon što ubije suprugu, njezina ljubavnika markiza Spadaforu
i vlasnika kuće u kojoj su se sastajali, Tommaso Scalia (Gian Maria Volonté)
očekuje smrtnu kaznu. Ali sudac Vito, koji je protiv smrtne kazne, smatra
da Tommasa treba osuditi na zatvorsku kaznu. Iako ga time naizgled
spasi, plati visoku cijenu.

Iako je skraćivanje izvornika pri adaptaciji izazvalo i negativne kritike,
film se, koncipiran kao spoj sudske drame, psihološkog trilera i
moralističke drame o smrtnoj kazni, uz 'Izuzetne leševe' (Cadaveri ecellenti),
smatra najuspjelijom ekranizacijom nekog Sciascina romana.
