Nakon majčine smrti četverogodišnja Ponette dolazi živjeti neko vrijeme na selo kod tetke. Usprkos tetinoj posvećenosti i povjerenju koje uspostavlja s bratićem Matiazom i sestričnom Delphine, Ponette uporno čeka majku da se vrati te se postupno sve više zatvara u sebe. Nakon što joj teta ipsriča priču o uskrsnuću, Ponette pjevanjem magičnih pjesama, te nuđenjem darova i izravnim obraćanjem Bogu pokušava vratiti majku.
