Teška priča o odnosima petero ljudi koji žive zajedno “zarobljeni” u malome stanu. Kućanstvo čine János, njegova bolesna majka Hédi, bolničarka Anna koja ju njeguje, Annin ljubavnik te nezaposleni učitelj Tibor. Hédi je nemoćna i ovisi o pomoći ostalih stanara, ali i oni ovise o njoj jer ona je vlasnica stana i upravlja svim financijama.
