Protagonisti su članovi britanske porodice koja se doselila u kanadski gradić gdje njihova 9-godišnja kćer postaje metom pedofilske žudnje starca (čiji lik tumači Felix Aylmer) koji je istovremeno najugledniji i najuticajniji čovjek u okolici.
