Glazbeni orkestar prestao je djelovati iz ekonomskih razloga, no prošire se glasine o ponovnu oživljavanju. Dio nekadašnjih članova se okupi i pokuša zasvirati zajedno. Na njihovu žalost, zvuče loše, ispali su iz prakse. Tad se pred njima pojavi novi dirigent Tetsusaburo Tendou o kojem ne znaju ništa. Skeptični su pred njime i njegovim znanjem, no daju mu šansu.
