Ostarjeli bivši boksač (J. Gabin) i njegova žena (Arletty) vode dvoranu u kojoj se održavaju boksački treninzi. On je u potrazi za mladim talentom kojeg će uzeti pod svoje i dovesti do vrha. I kad se čini da ga je našao, njegova žena misli da je vrijeme za mirovinu. A mladi boksač (R. Lesaffre) pokazuje više sklonosti prema ženama nego boksu...
Na Filmskom festivalu u Veneciji 1954. Jean Gabin je dobio nagradu Volpi, a Marcel Carné je nominiran za Zlatnoga lava.
