Narednik Andre Surprenan, policajac i otac buntovne tinejdžerke pokušava da vodi običan život nakon razvoda. Ima posao tipičnog seoskog predstavnika zakona na Magdalenskim ostrvima, grupi ostrva koja se nalazi kod obale Kvebeka, što je prilično ironično, s obzirom na to da se toliko plaši vode da ne može da pohađa časove plivanja kako bi prevazišao svoj strah. Videvši da se gradska policija usredsredila na nejasne činjenice i da je unapred odredila osumnjičenog, Surprenan započinje sopstvenu istragu sa partnerkom Ženevjev Savoja, koja je tajno zaljubljena u njega. Svi seljaci su mogući osumnjičeni.
