Biografska drama o američkoj glumici Jeanne Eagles. Lijepa i siromašna Jeanne (K. Novak) prijavila se na natjecanje u ljepoti ali nije pobijedila. Svidjela se organizatoru priredbe pa joj je ponudio posao plesačice. To nije ispunilo Jeannenine snove jer je željela postati glumica. Stoga je otišla je u New York i uspjela na kazališnoj pozornici. Ali ona je htjela više - biti zvijezda...

Američka glumica Jeanne Eagels (1890.-1929.) nastupala je na Broadwayu i u nekoliko filmova. Jedina je glumica do sada koja je postumno nominirana za Oscara (The Letter, 1929.), naime, J. Eagles iznenada je umrla u 39. godini.
