John Delmar, a wealthy and unscrupulous businessman, falls violently in love with Florette, a beautiful actress. His repeated attempts to see her meet with no success, so he resorts to extremes and has her bodily kidnapped, hoping that time will make her love him. Meanwhile her fiancé hires Detective Morse, who captures the confidential secretary of Delmar, and learns from her where Florette is being kept. In the interim, Florette steadfastly refuses to permit the caresses of Delmar. Finally, Delmar mixes a powerful sleeping potion, which he attempts to induce Florette to drink. Florette, however, has watched through the curtains and, when Delmar seizes her, cleverly changes the cups. Later, when Delmar has fallen into a drugged sleep, she takes his handkerchief as evidence and flees. Overtaken by peasants, Florette is again returned to Delmar, who pays the rascals handsomely for the return of his handkerchief and possession of Florette.
