"Fantomas" je 1964. bio odgovor Francuske na fenomen Džejmsa Bonda koji je pomeo svet u to doba. Ovo je prvi film iz trilogije, a Fantômas je postao silno uspešan u Evropi, Sovjetskom Savezu i Japanu. Uspeo je i u SAD-u gde dan-danas postoje web-stranice obožavalaca. Opšti ton filmova lakši je od originalnih romana Fantômas koje su napisali Pjer Suvestre i Marsel Alen.
