Film je snimljen po istinitom događaju. 1996. godine za vreme prvog rata u Čečeniji, pogranični region Ingušetije bio je ugrožen upadima Čečenskih terorista. Psihijatrijska bolnica se nalazila u blizini granice. Bolesnici su vodili svoj život potpuno nesvesni okolnih dešavanja.
