Film je adaptacija istoimenog romana Sinclaira Lewisa, za koju je scenarij je napisao Sidney Howard, autor istoimene dramske adaptacije. Sam Dodsworth je sredovječni automobilski tajkun koga njegova mlađa žena Fran nagovori da odu na veliko putovanje u Evropu. Tamo se iskristaliziraju razlike među njima, a pogotovo kada Fran, uvjerena kako je Sam 'priprost' počne vanbračne afere sa 'profinjenim' Evropljanima. Dodsworth je osvojio nagradu Oscar za najbolju scenografiju.
