Philipp je školski učitelj u vezi s Tanjom, kolegicom s posla. Iako su ga u mladosti privlačili mladići, zbog okoline prisiljen je zatomiti prave osjećaje. Odlučuje živjeti s Tanjom i njih dvoje su na pragu osnivanja obitelji. Čekajući u redu za koncertne karte upozna Matthiasa i iskreno se zaljubljuje. Film je premijeru imao na dan pada Berlinskog zida, 9. studenog 1989. godine.
