Опис:

Grčka je 1920-ih godina okupirana od strane Turaka. Zemlja je u nemiru i čitava sela su iskorenjena. Mesto radnje filma je grčko selo koje svake godine izvodi predstavu posvećenu Bogu. Vodeći građani grada, pod pokroviteljstvom Patrijarha, biraju one koji će igrati uloge u Stradanju. Mucavi pastir je izabran da igra Isusa. Gradski mesar (koji je želeo da bude Isus) izabran je za Judu. Gradska prostitutka je izabrana kao Marija Magdalena... Kako se film razvija, igra postaje stvarnost. Grupa seljana, unezverenih ratom i osiromašenih, stiže u selo predvođena svojim sveštenikom. Imućniji građani grada ne žele ništa sa ovim ljudima i manipulišu masakrom. U kontekstu 1920-ih svaki od likova igra svoju biblijsku ulogu u stvarnosti.
