Film prikazuje 24 sata u životu tri obitelji salinerosa, odnosno berača soli na poluotoku Araya u sjeveroistočnoj Venezueli, jednom od najsuših mjesta na planeti. Pod tvrđavom iz 17. stoljeća, sagrađenom radi zaštite od piratskih napada, već se gotovo pet stotina godina ručno skuplja sol. Obitelj Pereda naporno radi cijelu noć u močvarama soli da bi tijekom dana obitelj Salaz skupila sol, dok niže niz obalu obitelj Ortiz ribari i baca mreže. Tri priče ocrtavaju težak život regije koji je nestao dolaskom industrijske eksploatacije soli.
