Bivši detektiv Nick, zajedno sa Norom, dolazi u San Francisco posjetiti njenu bogatu rodbinu i, sticajem okolnosti, bude prisiljen ponovno koristiti svoje detektivske vještine kako bi riješio slučaj ubistva. Dashiell Hammett, autor originalnog romana, napisao je sinopsis, a scenaristi Albert Hackett i Frances Goodrich su sljedeće godine bili nominirani za Oscar za najbolji adaptirani scenario. Često se navodi kako je After the Thin Man najbolji film serije.
