Poljski patriot i skladatelj Frédéric Chopin (Cornel Wilde) jedan je od najpoznatijih glazbenika iz 19. stoljeća čijoj ljubav prema zemlji i predanost svojoj legendarnoj glazbi prijeti njegova strastvena veza sa spisateljicom George Sand (Merle Oberon) i njegovim suparništvom s mentorom Josefom Elsnerom (Paul Muni).
